It’s Turntable Tuesday! The Willie Nelson vinyl “Last Man Standing” is on this week!

It’s Turntable Tuesday…because life is too short not to listen to great music! Turn that TV OFF! Crank up some soothing tunes to make life better! This week the countdown is on for the upcoming first-ever virtual Farm Aid broadcast on this Saturday, September 26. Farm Aid can be enjoyed on AXS TV and farmaid.org from 8 PM EDT until 11 PM EDT. Farm Aid is the longest running music festival in concert history and has raised nearly $60 million dollars since 1985 to benefit our American family farmers. I want to raise awareness for Farm Aid as I am raising money again this year for Farm Aid which I would love to see all of you reading this send even a small donation directly to Farm Aid via my page. I do want to thank those of you who have donated and you can see the names on my fundraising page. There is are several anonymous donors and that is appreciated as well! This is one great cause as there is nothing like helping keep our food supply fresh and our small family farms operating in tough times! Have a look at my page where you can donate directly to Farm Aid and help me reach my goal. https://give.farmaid.org/fundraiser/2873149

After you finish the online content you can listen to subscribe to my companion podcast or listen right here. My podcast is available on all podcast outlets from Apple, Google, Spotify, and Tuned-in.

My signed copy of “Last Man Standing” on the piano stool. This is a great analog experience! One day I will tell the story of how my electric blue Les Paul fell on this stool after the strap came loose from the button and dented that place you see in the top after an extensive restoration. The guitar was uninjured and I now use strap locks.

I never thought I would miss being at Farm Aid the way I do as I write this. I am listening to Willie Nelson sing “Last Man Standing” and all I can think of all the times I have seen him since the 1970’s and what a good time Farm Aid is not to mention how the proceeds of all that work make the world a better place for all of us. There is nothing like hearing that voice and the family on stage in open air amplification. The next best thing is to sit back at home and just crank up the music. That is what we must do this year with a pandemic raging around the globe but ah the memories. To think I could be experiencing all of this live music this weekend just tortures me. Just today Farm Aid announced that Norah Jones is coming this weekend to the online show. Wow what a line-up! Willie Nelson and the Boys, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, The Black Pumas, Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Edie Brickell with Charlie Sexton, Jack Johnson, Jamey Johnson, Jon Batiste, Kelsey Waldon, Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Norah Jones, Particle Kid, The Record Company, Valerie June, The War and Treaty. Wow, wow, wow. This is one not to miss and it is available to you Saturday. Be there.

Let’s talk about the album. There are some great songs on this album. Buddy Canon produced this one. He is the guy from Tennessee who has worked with Willie as well as Kenny Chesney to make some incredible recordings. He is also the guy that co-wrote “Give it All Away” which is a song that I have heard performed live several times by Jamey Johnson. I absolutely love that song. Buddy worked with Jamey and one of my Dad’s old favorites “Whispering” Bill Anderson to write that one. George Strait sold a ton of copies of that song. So yeah Buddy has the chops and he did a great job on this record.

The track list for “Last Man Standing”

“Last Man Standing”
(featuring Buddy Cannon)
I don’t wanna be the last man standing
Or wait a minute maybe I do
If you don’t mind I’ll start a new line
And decide after thinking it through
Go on in front if you’re in such a hurry
Like heaven ain’t waiting for you
I don’t wanna be the last man standing
On second thought maybe I do

The vinyl

There are many of the usual players on this album. As I said on my podcast this album is full of “ringers.” There are some amazing artists on this collection of songs so I hope you listen in to hear all about the musicians. The album sound fidelity is very good and the tracks are balanced with just the right amount of inputs to make the songs sound really smooth. What a great record! I’ll say more on the podcast.

Hey folks thanks for reading my post for Turntable Tuesday and I hope you can spare a few dimes for the family farmers this week. There is nothing like a great Willie Nelson vinyl on the household turntable. Until next time, I’ll see you , down the road.
