Walking in Memphis.

It was a warm Summer Sunday evening in North Carolina. I drove the couple of hours to Durham to listen to the guy I wanted to hear for many years from the days of his hit “Walking in Memphis.” When people ask me who did you go see that made you a bit late coming into work and all tired for a day or two I say Marc Cohn. They say oh one-hit wonder guy. Everyone knows his hit song.  What they need to get educated on is the other part of the story. From the project called “Listening Booth 1970” to some of the other things he has done you just need to go explore his work. I shot a few decent photos on this night but i had to leave my seat ten feet center from the stage to do it.  Seems the guy behind me was annoyed that I was taking a few photos and the night coming from the rear-facing led even though it was covered by my hand and face was bothering him. I let it go and went wondering after a while. I would have liked to called him a name that starts with an “A” but I let it go even though he pecked on my left shoulder with his skinny finger. Enough of that and the fact that firearms are another one of my hobbies!

Marc Cohn. It was a fine show on this warm night. The crowd was older and they were very reserved. Thankfully a young couple was to my right and I was happy to see young people are still enjoying live music. I was going to share some keyboard shots on this post but I decided to just show the guitar one…Marc really reminds me of Bruce Hornsby. He is very vocal between songs and I really like his commentary and stories as he works through a setlist. He took a few requests and one of them was “Silver Thunderbird.” I think that was my favorite of the night. So I will leave it at that. Just go see him on the concert trail. You owe it to yourself.

Watched it coming up Winslow
Down South Park Boulevard
Yeah it was looking good from tail to hood
Great big fins and painted steel
Man it looked just like the bat mobile
With my old man behind the wheel
Well you could hardly even see him in all of that chrome
The man with the plan and the pocket comb
But every night it carried him home
And I could hear him saying

Don’t you give me no Buick
Son, you must take my word
If there’s a God in heaven
He’s got a Silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car’s absurd
Me, I wanna go down
In a Silver Thunderbird
