Squeeze Live at the Durham Performing Arts Center

Monday, August 2, 2021. The Durham Performing Arts Center hosts the first show since the pandemic shutdown. Just before I depart to head out to the show I get an email that the venue now wants all to wear a mask to the show no matter what your vaccinated status may be. Well I just tightened my mask straps and went on in after having a couple of really cold draft Kolsch beers over at Tobacco Road. Man it was good to be back at the DPAC and sitting on the patio overlooking the Bull Durham Stadium before the show in the warm summer air.

The “Nomadband Tour” played Durham tonight. http://www.squeezeofficial.com/ I don’t have too much in the way of a show review to add after several hours only a few feet from the band. The band was very tight. They had just played in Nashville on Sunday night and seemed to be on their game even though this is the front end of the tour. I really liked the percussion section as they played hard and with precision. Steve Smith and Simon Hanson sounded like they were playing the same kit. The bottom end was good via Owen Biddle and the keyboards from Stephen Large were excellent. Stephen played accordion and all kinds of keyboards from a Nord to a Moog. Glenn Tilbrook took the vocals and most of the performance on the song “Tempted” and I was a bit disappointed that the whole band laid back on that one. If they had layered that song with percussion and the full band effect I would have enjoyed it much more. Chris Difford was on rhythm guitar and vocals. Melvin Duffy was on pedal steel and guitars.

Leon Tilbrook opened the show and his guitar playing was excellent. The crowd liked the opener so I think that was a score for the show. I’ll add a photo or two more as time permits. In the mean time I’ll get these iPhone photos on the site as it is going to be a busy week and I want to get a placeholder on the blog for this concert.

It was great to get out and see the DPAC open once again. Until next time I’ll see you, down the road.
