It’s Turntable Tuesday because life is too short not to listen to great music! This week on Turntable Tuesday I am opening a copy of the ninth studio album from the Foo Fighters called “Concrete and Gold.” I am going to share some concert photos and some album photos of this one in the blog below. I picked up this vinyl album today at Hippo Records as I stopped by on my travels. The cover reminded me of the supporting concert tour and I want to share that story with you. So let’s get to it! What are YOU listening to right now? Buy music media and support your favorite musicians! Go see live shows and enjoy life!

September 15, 2017. The day the Foo Fighters released their ninth album to streaming, vinyl, and other things. Two singles were released prior to the album’s release, one called “Run” which topped the Billboard charts in July 2017, and “The Sky is a Neighborhood” which flew up the charts. A third song, “The Line”, was also released a week prior to the album, and tracks such as “La Dee Da” had been added at live shows earlier in 2017. The band went out on a North American tour in support of the album starting in October 2017. I was at one of those shows.
This album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 all-format album chart right after release. This was Foo Fighters’ second US number-one album and the fourth number one album on the Official Albums Chart in the United Kingdom stacking up over 61,000 albums as well as 35,000 in Australia on the ARIA Charts.
The Foo Fighters just kept cranking out music even after a break in 2016 that went on for a while. If you remember that time period you can remember Dave Grohl sitting in a “throne” chair after breaking his leg and not stopping tour. Soon he was writing again and this project was on. The recording started at EastWest Studios and the band kept bumping into other musicians working in the area. The next thing you know there were some serious barbecues with some added alcohol with guests invited. Sometimes Dave would even break out the grill to entertain over 40 people while the band was cranking out the music.
Collaborations happened on this album from Justin Timberlake, Shawn Stockman from Boys II Men, Inara George aka as Lowell’s daughter, David Koz on saxophone, and even Paul McCartney on drums on the track “Sunday Rain.” Rami Jaffee was added on keyboards and started his time as a band member on this recording venture.
I attended a show in the fall of 2017 to see this tour. The tickets were insanely hard to get as are all shows to see this band. My seats were not bad as I intentionally did not get on the floor for this sold out house full of metal fans. I wanted a safe seat near the stage where I could rock at close proximity without being in the mosh pit. I accomplished that strategy. The show was fantastic and I had a blast watching this band and the passion of the crowd who supports this band.
I really don’t want to drag you through all the statistics for this album except to say this is an exception metal band and this is a very cool album. I’ll dig into it on my companion podcast.
That is most of my story of this 2017 album from the Foo Fighters. Tune into the podcast for more details! Keep spinning your vinyl and enjoy your musical journey.
Until next time I’ll see you, down the road.
