Turntable Tuesday! Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real. “A Few Stars Apart”

It’s Turntable Tuesday because life is too short not to listen to great music! This week on Turntable Tuesday I am going to cue up the latest vinyl release from Lukas Nelson and Promise of The Real.” Last Tuesday I saw this band live for the second time in barely a month and had a blast! Turn that TV off! Crank up your local speaker or get out there and support your favorite band! Buy media! What are YOU listening to right now?

This copy is already framed. There is nothing like a signed version for the wall. At this point I need a larger listening room! My walls are full…but this one is a favorite.

If you would like to listen to my companion podcast you can listen here or subscribe for free on any of the streaming services you use. My podcast is easily searchable on any streaming service where you get your podcasts by searching “Andrew Talbert.” Look for the World Wide Music Media logo. I’ll talk to you on your mobile device!

On the piano stool this week is the back cover of “a Few Stars Apart.”

One side of the insert inside the album. You can see the band personnel and some production notes. I don’t have to remind readers that you can’t get this kind of detail from a download or a stream.
My spare copy of this album on the piano stool. I put this album in the category of why I have three copies of Robin Trower’s cd and two vinyl copies. Where is this thing? I know I have a copy some where.

I have had this album since the release date back on June 11, 2021. I have heard most all of the tracks performed live this year along with some of my favorites from the last album. I am going to dig into the tracks one by one on the companion podcast and offer up a story or two from my personal experiences of seeing this band perform.

This album is described by Lukas as his human connection to family during the time he spent with his family during the pandemic. I will tell you that I was asked to gather nurse and doctor Parrotheads for participation in half a dozen zoom calls with Jimmy Buffett and some of the band members as a treat to nurses and doctors treating patients. Each call had lots of people from all over North America who were helping fight the pandemic and treat patients. On one of those calls Lukas joined using his iPhone from being locked down due to the pandemic. Each artist played a song and talked a bit to the callers via video. There was no press coverage as the artists did this because they wanted to do something good. It was interesting to hear the stories of musicians who are used to constant travel having to stay in one place due to a virus. That was a strange time being in lock-down in the early days of 2020. I also remember watching Micah, Lukas, and Willie play some live streams. Those were some unique and different days I hope we never have to repeat.

There is a good read on this album at the web link: https://lukasnelson.com/music/a-few-stars-apart/

The 11 tracks on this album are an interesting listen that captures the moment in 2020 when we were all in lock-down and waiting on a vaccine to dig us out of a pandemic we are still working on today. I would encourage you to explore this web link above as there is some interesting reading on those pages. There is also some information about “giving back” which is something I have participated in ways all mostly related to music. I appreciate those who do it and Lucas is very involved in many ways. I still have been on my passionate musical journey for a lifetime and managed not to make a dime in the music business in fact it costs me as I fund everything I do and volunteer… That is my choice and exactly what I want. The thrill of a live show, the excitement of sharing a story with a fellow fan, and the moment. I am fortunate I have had so many. Here’s to many more! Life is too short not to listen to great music.

From “A Few Stars Apart” “Wildest Dream” As I listen to this song I hear the influence of Tom Petty. For this Tom Petty fan that is a good thing.

I’ll tell you more on my companion podcast.

Until next time I’ll see you, down the road.
